1. God Gives More Grace—But Only to the Humble

Most of us are familiar with the saving grace of God—the grace that forgives our sins and makes us new. But James 4:6 reveals that grace doesn’t stop at salvation.

There is more grace:

✔️ Grace to overcome struggles

✔️ Grace to heal from pain

✔️ Grace to restore broken relationships

✔️ Grace to break free from addictions

✔️ Grace to fulfill your purpose

But here’s the challenge:

God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

This means pride blocks grace. It puts up a wall between you and God’s supernatural help. On the other hand, humility opens the floodgates of God’s blessings.

Let’s break it down further.

2. How Pride Blocks God’s Grace

If grace is God’s free gift, why would He resist anyone? Good question! The answer is pride.

Pride creates resistance between you and God. It’s like putting up walls that prevent Him from helping you.

Think about it:

Have you ever tried to help someone, but they immediately got defensive? Instead of accepting your advice, they put up a wall and started listing everything you needed to change?

That’s what pride does.

Pride says:

🚫 “I don’t need help.”

🚫 “I’ve got this on my own.”

🚫 “I deserve more.”

🚫 “Why should I have to change?”

When we are prideful, we resist correction, reject wisdom, and block the very grace we need to move forward.

God doesn’t resist us because we have problems or sins—He resists us when we are too proud to receive His help.

That’s why the cure to every struggle isn’t trying to fix ourselves—it’s humbling ourselves to receive more grace.

3. What Does True Humility Look Like?

Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself—it’s thinking of yourself less.

It means having a soft heart, being teachable, and refusing to be defensive when corrected.

Jesus gives us a powerful lesson in Matthew 17, where He is transfigured before Peter, James, and John. His face shines like the sun, and His clothes turn white as light—revealing His divine nature.

Peter, overwhelmed, blurts out:

“Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, let us make three tabernacles—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” – Matthew 17:4 (NKJV)

Peter’s mistake? He put Jesus on the same level as Moses and Elijah.

God immediately interrupts him:

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” – Matthew 17:5 (NKJV)

Peter was trying to mix grace (Jesus) with the law (Moses) and prophets (Elijah). But God made it clear: Stop looking to old systems! Jesus alone is the way!

Humility means listening to Jesus instead of making up our own rules. It means letting go of pride and embracing the truth that we need Him more than we realize.

4. Breaking Free from Pride: 3 Steps to More Grace

If you want to experience greater grace, here’s how to develop humility:

1️⃣ Shift Your Focus to What God Has Done

One of the biggest causes of pride is forgetting what God has done.

“They had not understood about the loaves, because their hearts were hardened.” – Mark 6:52 (NIV)

The disciples forgot about Jesus’ miracles, and their hearts became hardened. The same happens to us when we forget how faithful God has been.

✅ Take time to reflect on your past victories

✅ Write down answered prayers

✅ Remember that every success is because of God’s grace

When you’re at the top of the mountain, give him glory because he got you there. And when you’re at the bottom of the valley, give him glory because he’s with you there. Your awareness of his presence in the valley of the shadow of death will bring you out of the valley of the shadow of death.

Thankfulness softens your heart and makes room for more Grace.

2️⃣ Acknowledge That “It Is He Who Gives”

“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” – Deuteronomy 8:18 (NIV)

Everything good in your life came from God. The more you recognize His hand in your success, the more you remain humble and open to receiving more from Him.

🙌 Instead of thinking: “I worked hard for this!”

Say: “God gave me the strength and opportunity to work hard. Because He is in me both to will and do..”

🙌 Instead of saying: “I figured it out.”

Say: “God gave me the wisdom to navigate this. He is my wisdom.”

When you realize God is the source, you stop boasting in yourself and start boasting in Him.

3️⃣ Practice Listening More Than Talking

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason.

Too often, pride makes us talk more than we listen. We want to share our opinions, prove our point, or win the argument.

But God’s wisdom comes when we listen.

“Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” – James 1:19 (NIV)

Humility is:

✔️ Being open to correction

✔️ Choosing to understand before reacting

✔️ Letting go of defensiveness

When you humble yourself to listen, God releases more grace into your life.

Final Thoughts: More Grace, More Favor

The cure to every struggle is more grace—and the key to unlocking more grace is humility.

If you want:

✔️ More favor and opportunities → Stop striving and rely on God’s grace

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6 (NKJV)
