Life is hectic. We rush from one task to another, checking off to-do lists, managing responsibilities, and trying to keep up with the demands of work, family, and personal goals. But have you ever paused and wondered—is all this busyness drawing me closer to Jesus or pulling me away from Him?
In Luke 10:38-42, we see two sisters, Mary and Martha. Martha was busy preparing and serving, while Mary simply sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to His words. When Martha complained, Jesus gently corrected her:
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42, ESV)
This story is a wake-up call. In a world that glorifies busyness, Jesus calls us to something better—resting in His presence. When we choose to sit with Jesus, we find peace in the midst of chaos, clarity in confusion, and wisdom for life’s decisions.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Worry steals joy. It drains our energy, clouds our judgment, and makes life feel overwhelming. But Jesus offers a better way.
Martha was worried about many things, but Mary found peace by sitting with Jesus. When we prioritize time with Him, we shift our focus from our problems to His power.
✅ Practical Step: Instead of starting your day with social media or emails, begin with prayer and Scripture. Give your worries to Jesus before anything else.
Reflection: What’s weighing on your heart today? Have you surrendered it to Jesus?
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
We live in a world of distractions—news, notifications, work, social media, and endless demands. Without focus, we drift through life without direction. Sitting with Jesus brings clarity.
Mary understood that time with Jesus was more valuable than anything else. His Word gives us wisdom, and His presence realigns our hearts with what truly matters.
✅ Practical Step: Set aside a quiet moment each day to read the Bible and ask, “Lord, what do You want me to focus on today?”
Reflection: What distractions are pulling you away from focusing on Jesus? How can you make time for Him?
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Not everything that demands your time is worth your time. Some things are urgent but not important. Some things seem necessary but don’t bring lasting fulfillment.
Martha thought preparing food was the priority, but Jesus reminded her that only one thing was truly needed—Him. When we sit with Jesus, He helps us discern what is essential and what can wait.
✅ Practical Step: Make a list of your daily activities and ask yourself, “Is this bringing me closer to God or just keeping me busy?”
Reflection: Are you investing time in what truly matters, or just staying busy?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Life is full of choices—career decisions, relationships, financial planning, personal growth. Without God’s guidance, it’s easy to make decisions based on emotions, pressure, or fear.
Sitting with Jesus fills us with divine wisdom. It helps us see beyond the temporary and make choices that lead to lasting fulfillment.
✅ Practical Step: Before making a major decision, take time to pray and seek wisdom from God’s Word.
Reflection: What important decisions are you facing right now? Have you taken time to ask Jesus for direction?
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
The best decision you can make today is to sit with Jesus. When you do, you’ll experience:
The world will always push you to be busy. But Jesus invites you to rest, listen, and be filled with His presence.
This week, make intentional time to sit with Jesus.
